Zinfandel is mysterious grape with a checkered past, but it’s always popular at dinner or cocktail parties. It’s a wine that is generally enjoyed best when young before it’s luscious, distinguishing fruit diminishes with age. Our 2011 Zinfandel has classic, old-world-style. It’s spicy and zesty with an aroma of cinnamon, allspice and anise that’s reminiscent of a red hot candy. It exhibits dark, ripe fruit that’s surprisingly light on the palate with hints of black licorice and a mouth-watering finish. The young tannins are soft and drinkable. It pairs wells with grilled steaks or chops, stewed meats and meats stuffed with fruit and lighter pasta dishes.
The fruit for Hot Date comes from an eastside Paso Robles vineyard. It was picked early so that we could give it the light, delicate, old-world style Zinfandel that pairs well with food. It was aged in French and neutral oak for 2 years.
